Glass Grade: High Flint and Super Flint

Our liquor bottles are made mainly in two grades of clear glass. High flint is the everyday clear glass for spirits: clean, bright and cost-efficient. Super flint (also called crystal flint or extra flint) uses lower-iron raw materials, so it has none of the faint green tint visible at the base of standard clear glass. On a clear spirit such as vodka, gin or blanco tequila, the difference shows on the shelf. Our article on super flint vs high flint glass explains when the extra cost is worth it.

Bottles are produced clear and can be decorated in any colour, so a single clear mold can serve several products in a range.

Neck Finishes and Closures

Spirit bottles are made with one of two neck types: a bar top (cork) finish or a screw finish. The finish is part of the mold, so the closure has to be chosen together with the bottle rather than afterwards. We supply the closure in the same order:

  • Natural cork stoppers with wooden, metal or glass heads
  • Synthetic (polymer) stoppers, which do not dry out or crumble
  • Glass stoppers for decanter-style and luxury bottles
  • Screw aluminium caps
  • ROPP aluminium caps (roll-on pilfer-proof), formed onto the bottle by machine on the capping line, with a tamper-evident ring

Wooden cap heads can be carved or engraved with your logo, and aluminium caps can be printed. If leakage in transit is a concern for your market, our guide to liquor bottle closures and neck finishes covers how each closure seals and where it fails.

Decoration Options

Most spirits brands decorate a clear bottle rather than buying coloured glass. We offer:

  • Screen printing: fired-on logos and text, permanent and scratch-resistant
  • Decal (fired): full-colour and photographic artwork
  • Water transfer printing: patterns that wrap the whole bottle, including curved shoulders
  • Colour spray: any colour, matched to your Pantone reference
  • Frosting: matte, soft-touch finish, full body or partial
  • Electroplating: metallic finish across the bottle
  • Hot stamping: gold or silver detail
  • Labels: applied on request

Methods can be combined on one bottle. Minimums, colour limits and artwork requirements for each method are set out on our glass bottle decoration service page, and our article on how bottle colour affects a spirit brand looks at the design side.

Stock bottle lead times above are for bottles we hold in inventory, decorated to your design. When a bottle from one of our existing molds has to be produced for your order rather than taken from stock, allow 15–25 days for sampling and 35–45 days for production. Production starts after you approve the sample and does not include ocean freight. A branded bottle does not require a custom mold: decoration and a logo on the cap make a stock bottle your own at the 2,000-piece minimum. When a signature shape is the right call, our custom glass bottle design service takes it from drawing to finished mold, and our guide to designing a custom spirit bottle walks through the process. Sampling costs and mold costs are listed separately on our quotation so you know the full cost before you commit.

Quality Checks You Can Specify

Spirits put more demands on a bottle than most products: the closure has to seal against high-proof alcohol, and plated or sprayed parts stay in contact with it for years. Every order is produced against the sample you approve, and beyond that we agree the checks your project needs and write them into the order before production starts. Common ones for spirit bottles:

  • Dimension records: neck outer diameter, height and capacity measured on a random sample, with readings sent to you
  • Closure fit: corks and caps cross-tested on bottles at random, with a pull test, on video
  • Alcohol resistance: plated and sprayed parts soaked in alcohol to confirm no discolouration or peeling
  • Colour match: finished goods photographed beside your approved sample in natural light
  • Packing and loading: carton and pallet specification agreed in advance, with loading photos

Tell us which of these matter for your bottle when you request a quote. More detail is on our quality control service page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order for glass liquor bottles?

2,000 pieces for stock bottles. Custom molds start at 10,000–30,000 pieces depending on capacity and glass grade.

What is the difference between high flint and super flint glass?

Super flint is made from lower-iron raw materials, so it has no green tint. It costs more and suits clear spirits where the liquid's clarity is part of the product.

Can you supply corks and caps with the bottles?

Yes. We supply natural cork, synthetic and glass stoppers, as well as screw and ROPP aluminium caps. Wooden heads can carry a carved logo and aluminium caps can be printed.

Do I need a custom mold to get a branded bottle?

No. Screen printing, decals, frosting, spray colour, electroplating and hot stamping all work on stock bottles from 2,000 pieces.

How long does a liquor bottle order take?

It depends on the route. Decorating a bottle we hold in stock takes 7–10 days for sampling and 15–20 days for production. Producing from one of our existing molds takes 15–25 days for sampling and 35–45 days for production. A new custom mold takes 25–40 days for sampling and 35–45 days for production. Ocean freight is extra.

Which size should I choose: 700ml or 750ml?

700ml is standard in the EU, UK and Australia; 750ml in the United States and many other markets. Brands selling in both often run two bottles from one design.
